Business Central, who work in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Business NZ are hosting a recruitment workshop in Wellington at the end of June. This is not a SmartPayroll event, and there is a fee to attend. The fee is lower with a Business Central membership, and you can find out more about the event and Business Central at their website.
Recruitment Workshop – Wellington Chamber of Commerce
Recruiting great people for your business is a challenging process. This is true if you are a company of one looking to recruit your first employee or a business of 20 trying to make sure your next hire fits your current workplace culture. Even for large businesses, making sure your recruitment process is delivering the absolute best candidates, with the perfect skill sets for the organisation can be a big challenge.
On Friday the 30th of June, Business Central is hosting a recruitment workshop in Wellington at the Willeston Conference Centre. This will be a great chance to learn from a panel of recruitment specialists, as they explore the potential pitfalls of recruitment and share their experience with the payoffs of getting it right.
Recruitment Topics Covered
There will be a range of excellent speakers, covering a wide range of recruitment topics. These are just some of the topics that will be covered on the day:
Working with recruitment agencies
Bringing in a recruitment agency when sourcing talent is not the end of your involvement in recruitment, it’s just the beginning. Knowing what agencies offer and how to get the most out of the agency you’ve engaged will help you to get the most value from the relationship. Mike Westbury of 180 Recruitment will cover what is on offer from recruitment agencies and explain the steps that you can take to get the best from them.
It can be tempting to rush in when you’ve decided your business needs a new employee and get straight to advertising a role. Getting the pre-recruitment process right can really make a big difference to the outcome of your recruiting efforts. Martin MacLean from Business Central will be covering the following steps of this vital phase in the process:
- Preparing job descriptions
- Role competencies
- Formulating interview questions
- Getting the application process right
Advertising roles online
Having gone through a thorough process of outlining the required competencies and job descriptions, advertising the role online is likely to be the next logical step. At the workshop, Jeremy Wade from Trade Me Jobs will be on hand to talk about getting the best results from your advertising. With insights from the Trade Me team on advertising that makes an impact, your business will be well on the way to ensuring that the right candidate sees and applies for your role.
Selecting the right candidate
Once quality applications are rolling in for the position you are advertising, the process of selection is the next step. Depending on your company’s needs, you’ll probably go with some combination of interviewing and assessments.
Grant Amos, a Consultant Psychologist will be there to talk about what aptitude assessments or tests can uncover and how to use them to the best advantage for selecting the right candidate.
There will also be a section on interviewing techniques to help you ask the right questions and frame them in the right way to get the best match of competencies.
The above were just some of the great topics that will be covered by the experts at the Business Central workshop at the end of June. For more details, you can visit the website.
SmartPayroll won’t be speaking at the event, but our recruitment guide will be one of the handouts on the day. We think it is a great opportunity to get some great recruitment advice and ask any questions you have about your own recruitment processes.
There is a cost for this event and you do need to register if you wish to attend.
