As part of our on-going commitment to working closely with accountants, we have just appointed Richard Phillips as our new “Regional Sales Manager – Professional Services”. Richard will be based in Auckland and will be working closely with accountants based in his area. Richard was SmartPayroll’s first fulltime sales person in the early days.

Richard’s total focus will be on developing and maintaining relationships with professional services firms such as accountants who refer SmartPayroll to their clients. Richard will also assist with the interface with Xero for these customers.

With a background in sales and marketing, Richard is passionate about helping businesses grow. Richard has been involved in SmartPayroll since its inception back in 2004. In his new role helping accountants get the SmartPayroll service out to their clients, Richard acknowledges there is a big challenge in front of him. “Accountants face the same challenges in keeping up with changes in technology that their clients do, so my role is to make it as easy as possible for them to help their clients adopt the new breed of SaaS (Software as a Service)solutions that have surpassed the old software-based solutions. Teaming up with other SaaS providers such as Xero will be key to offering accountants an end-to-end solution that is fully on-line, enabling them to better service their clients through value-add services and advice. SmartPayroll is critical in ensuring them peace of mind that their clients’ payroll obligations such as PAYE, Kiwisaver and leave compliance are taken care of easily.”

When he’s not working with accountants, Richard loves travelling, spending time with his partner Lou and is active in a variety of sports such as surfing, triathlon and completed the Rotorua Marathon in May this year.

According to Richard, “SME’s are the backbone of the economy. They slog it out every day working harder than anyone to provide jobs and make the economy tick over. Ironman for me stands for similar qualities that SME’s require to be successful – commitment, hard work and focus.”
